I have updated ZoneStripper to v1.0.1.0. This version fixes an issue where ZoneStripper would stop processing files/directories on an “Access denied” error. ZoneStripper would occassionally encounter this error on a particular file, even when you have full rights to the file and it is not locked. Closing all open applications and/or rebooting and re-running ZoneStripper produces the same error and always on the same file(s). This version logs the issue to the console, but continues processing additional files. Previously ZoneStripper reported the error, but stopped processing additional files. Thanks to Jason Kaczor for alerting to this mysterious problem.

This is a great tool, and I appreciated your technical explanation in the readme. Have you ever figured out what the source of the Access Denied error is? I am running into it trying to "strip" a source tree; most of the files were stripped correctly, but a few subdirectories result in Access Denied. What is odd is that those files appear to have been stripped anyway, because if I open the properties on those files, I don’t see the Unblock button.

I never did manage to locate the cause of the problem. I never found a way to reproduce it, which made it difficult to track down. Sorry I can’t provide a better explanation.

Hey James,
great work on all of your endeavours. I follow your blog. I like this tool. I must’ve been in a case not to stumble on this earlier. I was wondering if it’s ok if I can throw some fixes in it. I noticed that the tool blows up on Vista x64 if I just run against a single file. I figured minimally it could suport wildcard on files and/or directories. I think it might be worth my evening.– Roma
